The monolithic and imposing Singletary Center for the Arts, the current home of the University of Kentucky’s art museum, concert hall, and small rehearsal spaces is seldom visited by the average UK student. This proposal sought to replace the existing structure with a more decentralized programmatic arrangement housed under a non-orthogonal superstructure that causally unfolds across the landscape. The boundaries between softscape and hardscape are blurred by grade changes and the introduction of a large reflecting pool, which helps complete the ‘groundless’ form the of the building.
