Ceilingscape

The entrance of Pence Hall, the home of the School of Architecture at UK, dates from 1910, and represents a synthesis of architectural forms from various eras. The design of a new ceilingscape for the building’s entrance hall sought to enhance its existing spatial qualities. The form emerged from the creation of a single formal unit that was aggregated along a horizontal axis and manipulated by digital parametrics. The structure shifts in size and elevation, reaching down along side walls to touch the floor, thus blurring ‘wall’ and ‘ceiling.’
